GOAL USA 2026 Finals Brings FIFA World Cup Excitement to Kathmandu

URMILA KHATRI-Kathmandu,The excitement of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ arrived in Nepal’s capital as the U.S. Embassy Nepal organized the GOAL! USA 2026 Finals, a vibrant football event that celebrated sportsmanship, friendship, and healthy competition among young athletes from across the country.
Held as part of the Freedom 250 Campaign, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence, the event brought together talented young footballers from Biratnagar, Surkhet, Bhairahawa, and Pokhara. After weeks of football skills competitions involving hundreds of participants, the top performers from each city earned their place in the national finals in Kathmandu.
The competition provided a platform for young athletes to showcase their football skills, determination, and passion for the game. Their performances reflected the growing popularity of football among Nepal’s youth and highlighted the country’s emerging sporting talent.
One of the major highlights of the event was a friendly football match featuring youth participants and celebrity athletes, who teamed up to face a squad from the U.S. Embassy Nepal. The match created an atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie, demonstrating how sport can strengthen friendships and bring communities together.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Scott Urbom, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Nepal, emphasized the role of sports in building connections between people and nations.
“GOAL! USA reflects the enduring friendship between the United States and Nepal. As the United States prepares to host the FIFA World Cup 2026, we are proud to share that excitement with young people across Nepal and create connections that bring our communities closer together,” he said.
According to the U.S. Embassy Nepal, the initiative aims to inspire young athletes, encourage healthy competition, and promote values such as teamwork, discipline, leadership, and perseverance through sports.
As the countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026™ continues, the GOAL! USA 2026 Finals offered Nepali youth a unique opportunity to experience the spirit of the world’s biggest football tournament. The event also strengthened people-to-people ties between Nepal and the United States while celebrating the universal appeal of football.
The FIFA World Cup 2026™ will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and events such as GOAL! USA 2026 are helping bring the excitement of the tournament to football fans around the world long before the opening match.
