Kathmandu, The Government of Nepal has made an official online payment facility available for people wishing to contribute to relief and recovery efforts following the devastating flash floods that have caused widespread destruction in northern Nepal.
The Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund, through a digital payment gateway operated by Nepal Clearing House Ltd. (NCHL), is accepting donations through both domestic and international payment cards. The facility provides an option for Nepalis living abroad as well as foreign nationals and other international well-wishers who wish to contribute to Nepal’s ongoing relief efforts.
The online portal allows donors outside Nepal to make contributions using international cards, providing a direct digital channel to support the government’s official disaster relief fund.
The development comes as Nepal continues large-scale rescue and relief operations following the catastrophic flash floods that struck areas around the Bhotekoshi River and Rasuwa, with the disaster affecting settlements, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure. The scale of the tragedy has also prompted humanitarian assistance from several countries and international organisations.
Nepali diplomatic missions abroad have also been facilitating information about official channels through which Nepalis overseas can support relief efforts. The government has urged the public to use authorised mechanisms rather than depositing donations into unofficial personal accounts.
For Nepalis in the UAE and other countries, as well as foreign citizens who want to support Nepal during the crisis, the government’s online gateway provides a convenient way to make a contribution from abroad.
The government’s initiative is expected to make it easier for the large Nepali diaspora and international community to contribute directly to the country’s official disaster relief mechanism as rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts continue.
