Amidst unannounced visa ban of Nepali citizens traveling for United Arab Emirates the Nepali Embassy in Abu Dhabi has reminded Nepali nationals residing in the United Arab Emirates to abide by the country’s legal system, workplace rules, and cultural traditions.
This reminder was issued on Tuesday after reports surfaced of Nepalis being increasingly involved in offences such as labour law breaches, banking fraud, cybercrime, traffic violations, visa misuse, and inappropriate social behaviour. The embassy urged workers to avoid any actions that could put them at odds with UAE laws.
The statement issued through notice posted in official Facebook page of the embassy outlines 11 areas of focus. Among them are respecting labour contracts, observing traffic regulations, maintaining honesty in daily conduct, steering clear of fraud and contract violations, avoiding offensive or misleading posts on social media, not creating unapproved groups or associations, and working to preserve unity within the Nepali community abroad.
According to the embassy, those who disregard these points risk facing legal proceedings. It is also assumed by many that the visa ban/restriction by UAE of Nepali citizens effective recently is caused by not only recent revolution of Gen Z in Nepal but also increasing number of violation of law by Nepalese in the UAE.
With nearly 800,000 Nepalis currently living in the UAE, the country remains one of the most significant destinations for Nepali migrant workers. In the past year alone, 264,000 Nepalis travelled to the UAE for employment opportunities.
