Memorandum Handover to UN Security Council regarding Nepali Land Encroachment by India

USA/ The Memorandum regarding Nepali Land Encroachments by India has been hardcovered to the Excellency Kelly Craft, Ambassador of the United States to the United Nations Security Council on Monday, June 8, 2020.

The delegation led by the Non-Resident Nepali Association, Regional Coordinator of Americas’ Region; Mr. Rajan Tripathi submitted the memorandum attached with persuasive documentation for the substantiation of Nepal’s position that justified the Limpiyadhura range is the origination of Mahakali River. The Sugauli Treaty 1816 between East India Company and Government of Nepal Cleary demarcated the Mahakali river is the western boundary of Nepal and India.

“The Kali River is, in fact, the Kuthi Yankti River that arises below the Limpiyadhura range. Therefore, the entire area up to the Kuthi Yankti river and valley, Kalapani, Lipulake, and Limpiyadhura, the 335 Sq. Km. in the total area are the part of Nepal territory” reads the memorandum. The memorandum further stated that the provocative action follows the unilateral publication of a revised territorial map by the Indian Government in October 2019 which wrongly portrays Nepali sovereign territories Kalapani, Lipulake and Limpiyadhura as part of India.

The updated map of Nepal released by the government of Nepal on May 20, 2020, the payment of taxes by the people of the disputed area to Nepal Government, Voting record in the local elections in the Government of Nepal, a dime of NRS: 1 with the proper map, and maps from different libraries and agencies showing the Limpiyadhura as the origination of Kali River were submitted along with the memorandum. Ahmed Shama, the advisor of the Ambassador received the memorandum on behalf of the Ambassador with whom the delegates hold a virtual meeting for an hour.

“We have respectfully requested to look into the matter and ask the Government of India to immediately withdraw its security forces and stop its activities in the sovereign territory of Nepal and help to resolve this matter.” Said Rajan Tripathi, the Regional Coordinator of NRNA ICC Americas’ region. Along with Mr. Tripathi, Jedu Pokharel, NRNA ICC Member, Kiran Marahatta, Advisor, NRNA Media and Publication Committee, Hari K. Sharma, DNC Member, Bhim Bahadur BK, Director, PDRC International and Iswor Thapa, Youth Leader PDRC were in the delegation. “We are going to inform an action team for the further fallow up.” Said Jedu Pokharel who had initiated the campaign.
